Why chunky pieces

Small fingers drop slim pieces, and dropped pieces end lessons early. Wide bases and rounded edges mean a five-year-old can set the board without help.

Recommended for ages 5 and up. The guide is written for parents who are learning alongside their child, so no chess experience is needed to teach from it.
